This'll Be a Quickie

I need to stop eating turkey. Seriously, I'm exhausted.

This will be a quick link-to kind of blog post.

1. Derek Jeter vs the Yankees.

I was going to write an entire blog post about this, but it seems kind of trivial. You have a huge PR crisis. In one corner, you have the Yankees Captain, Derek Jeter. He has led the Yankees to 5 World Series Championships, 7 appearances, 13 post season appearances, MVP awards, Gold Glove winner and multiple All-Star appearances. He's done this with class and no off-the-field issues. He is and will be a Yankees legend. In the other corner, you have the most winningest baseball organization. The Yankees have a storied history, multiple World Series Championships and multiple Hall of Famers. Long story short: you have a player who wants more money than he's worth (I love the guy, but it's the truth) based on his past, while the club doesn't want to pay for the past and is evaluating the player on his past season performance. Basically, a PR clash of a classy individual and a storied franchise. I'd link to some stories, but turn on ESPN and you'll find some stuff. Or read the NY Daily News or do a Google search.

2. USA Today has more entertainment reporters than reporters cover Congress.

Really?! This is just plain sad. And it's not even the newspaper's fault. Sadly, people would much rather read about Taylor Swift than what's going on in the government.

3. 10 Words to not use in your copy.

This is something a lot lighter for you. A top-10 list of words that shouldn't appear in your copy.

4. WikiLeaks

You have heard about WikiLeaks right? Or maybe not. Maybe you were too busy paying attention to what Kim Kardashian was doing. Here's the gist of what WikiLeaks has released: correspondence from the US and other foreign governments relating to Iran and its nuclear program. There will be more leaks to come.

5. Edelman vs Deadly Spin and Deadly Spin vs Edelman

Richard Edelman fired back has issues with the author of the critical PR book, Deadly Spin. Author, Wendell Spotter, fires back.

6. This just plain saddens me.

They've made a Yogi Bear movie. Will Hollywood stop doing this? Stop trying to make "easy money" by creating movies with characters from the past. Be creative and think for yourselves. It looks terrible and sullies Yogi's character. (Think I'm being overdramatic? Look at the live action Scooby Doo movies, Rocky and Bullwinkle, Underdog and Alvin and the Chipmunks movies.) What's next? Droopy Dog, Secret Squirrel or the PowderPuff Girls.

Hey USA Today reporters, let's call some of your Hollywood contacts and tell them to stop ruining kid shows with crappy movies.

7. RIP Leslie Nielsen

"Surely, you can't be serious." "I'm am serious...and don't call me Shirley."
